A vigilant crowd of well wishers today frustrated and foiled a dare devil team of armed robbers who broke into the home of a professor with the Federal University of Technology Akure around FUTA area in Akure.What was however the greatest shock was the identity of one of the armed robbers. His name is Ayo Amodeni the son of Hon. (Prince) Solagbade Amodeni the Ondo State Commissioner for Natural Resources and a close ally and confidant of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the governor of Ondo State.
The team numbering about five had positioned themselves in strategic places around FUTA area with the intention to rob some selected houses. The operation was already in progress when they discovered that one of the professors whose house had been targeted and earmarked for their raid was actually at home.
The armed robbers quickly pounced upon him while Ayo Amodeni, one of the tallest in the group pinned him down to a corner while another member of the team hit the professor in the head with a sledge hammer.
Courageous and quick intervention of passers' by including vigilant students of the institution narrowly saved the live of the professor. This eventually led to the arrest of the leader of the gang who upon interrogation and the obvious determination of the crowd to set fire on him confessed that he is the son of the Ondo State Honourable Commissioner for Natural Resources.
The men of the State Anti Robbery Squad who later responded to the distress call of residents in the area could not hide their surprise. The suspect is presently in the maximum security cell reserved for notorious armed robbers at the State's Anti Robbery Squad Office along Oda Road in Akure.
